My Gear

What gear do you use?

Vlogging Camera: Canon Powershot G7X Mark II

When I travel, I usually like to keep it light and compact because I can move freely, and it's a lot more convenient. This camera has a flip out selfie-screen, touch focus, built-in image stabilizer and works really well in low light. The built-in audio quality is also pretty decent for such a small camera. I got it in 2017, and its been my favourite travel companion since!

Vlogging Camera: Canon M50

The Canon M50 is my newest vlogging camera that I bought in February 2020 (after unfortunately losing my Canon Powershot G7 Mark II while traveling around Korea in 2019). It's definitely a bit bigger/heavier than my previous vlogging camera, but the great thing about the Canon M50 is that it has a microphone jack, so I plug in an external microphone to increase the audio quality. I personally paired my Canon M50 with the Rode VideoMicro Compact On-Camera Micprohone. It's light and compact, and includes a shock mount and deadcat windscreen inside the box.

Cinema Camera: Canon EOS C100

The C100 is the main camera I use for professional work - specifically wedding videography. It has a wide dynamic range, built-in ND filter, and produces cinematic image quality. I've been using it since 2015, and absolutely love the colour, quality, and controls.

Mirrorless Camera: Sony A6500

The Sony A6500 is my secondary camera that I mainly pair with the DJI Ronin S. Compared to using the C100, this set-up is pretty lightweight, so I have better control and can fly the gimbal for a while without being tired. What makes the Sony A6500 great is that it's light and compact, has amazing auto-focus, can shoot slow-mo (1080p 60fps), and also 4K video quality.

Phone Gimbal: DJI Osmo Mobile 3

The DJI Osmo Mobile 3 is a phone gimbal that I purchased in 2019 for IRL streaming on Twitch. It provides smooth camera movements, which gives the audience a better and more comfortable viewing experience. This gimbal is also great for vlogging and creating professional phone quality video work - a great alternative if you can't afford a vlogging camera. What makes this gimbal different than the Osmo Mobile 1 and 2 is that it can fold in half, making it much more convenient in terms of portability. This gimbal also comes with an app (DJI Mimo) that includes fun video templates to play around with!

Vlogging Gimbal: Zhiyun Crane M2

The Zhiyun Crane M2 is the lastest gimbal that I bought for travel vlogging on YouTube. I actually saw someone use it while I was in Japan, and researched on it afterwards! I love how small and light this gimbal is. It's perfect to pack for a trip, and it can handle the Canon M50. The Crane M2 also comes with a complimentary phone clamp (so I technically don't need my DJI Osmo Mobile 3). Overall, this will be my new go-to gimbal for simple, lightweight, professional quality videos.

Professional Gimbal: DJI Ronin S

This is the first professional gimbal that I've successfully used and loved because it's pretty light (compared to steadicams and glidecams), and the movements are really smooth because it's motorized. DJI recently released the Ronin-SC which is an even smaller gimbal that I've been considering because I want to lighten my set-up as much as possible.

Drone: DJI Mavic Air

The DJI Mavic Air is one of the tiniest and portable drones out there, which makes it perfect for traveling. Every country has its own drone laws though, so just be sure to search it up and comply with the rules. In Canada, they recently released a law where you have to obtain a drone license before you can fly your drone.

Drone: DJI Mavic Mini

The DJI Mavic Mini is currently the smallest drone available and fits in the palm of my hands! It's perfect for beginner drone pilots and it doesn't require a license for you to fly either!

What program do you edit with?

Premiere Pro CC & Final Cut Pro.

Note: I use Premiere Pro for the majority of my edits. The only time I really use Final Cut Pro is when I do same day edits for weddings. The reason is because Final Cut Pro is a lot faster (it renders the files in the background while editing) which creates less lag and better playback during the post-production process.
